Sustainable Ballard has launched a new initiative called “Idle Free Ballard” to help raise awareness about unnecessary vehicle idling. Idling wastes gas, worsens climate change, and harms air quality, impacting vulnerable populations.
You can save money and health by turning off your engine… whether you’re a commuter waiting at the Ballard Bridge, a parent waiting outside school or watching your kids’ sports, parked at Sunset Hill Park for the view, or checking your phone in the grocery store parking lot.
Did you know?
10 seconds of idling wastes more fuel than restarting
16 million gallons of fuel is wasted by unnecessary idling in the U.S. every day
Turning off your car is better for the engine than leaving it running
