Join Our (Muslim) Neighbors – Annual BBQ at Idriss Mosque

Sunday, August 13, 2017 @ 2:00 – 5:00 PM

Idriss Mosque, 1420 NE Northgate Way, Seattle, WA 98125

Different from the monthly potlucks, this event on the second Sunday of August is when Sheikh Idriss Mosque and the Islamic Centre of Washington (ICW) are hosting their 16th Annual BBQ. We are all invited to this fun event. Hamburgers, hotdogs and vegetarian options will be served. This will be an excellent opportunity to meet our neighbours and work together for peace, compassion, reconciliation and justice. Please note: This is NOT a potluck, the regular monthly potlucks will resume in the Fall.  Idriss Mosque and the ICW very proudly host the community at this special BBQ annually. The most important thing we can do is show up. Bring only an empty stomach and an open heart!  If you would like to carpool or need a ride, please contact Cara at outreach@ourredeemers.net.

Feed Hungry People All Summer Long!

by Cara Kiggins

As a parent, this summer food bank drive has given me an opportunity to have conversations with my 4 year old daughter about hunger, sharing, and generosity. I asked her to pick out a few cans from our pantry as we were heading out for the Wednesday evening service this week, and of course she asked me:  “Why?”. We talked about how some kids and adults don’t have enough to eat, and are really hungry. We talked about how being hungry all the time can make kids tired, grumpy, or cause them to have trouble learning in school or paying attention in school. We talked about all of this, standing in front of our pantry full of food. Which led to conversation about sharing, and generosity. She proudly picked out two cans of food and we scrambled off to church (who plans for time for conversations like this when hustling your kids out the door?!).

Well, folks, we’ve got a ways to go towards meeting our 750lb goal by September 10th! So far, we’ve raised about 21.8 lbs. I’m sure we’re just getting warmed up, right? We can do this, right? Let’s step up our game to meet our goal by the end of Summer!

All food will be donated to the Ballard Food Bank.

God’s Work, Our Hands: Carkeek Park

September 24th 12:30pm-3:30pm

“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

This year, on Sunday September 24th, 12:30pm-3:30pm, Our Redeemer’s will be caring for God’s creation in beautiful Carkeek Park, followed by a celebratory potluck picnic at 3:30pm. Our work party will be led by a Carkeek Park Trail Steward. We’ll work on a forest restoration and trails maintenance project set up just for Our Redeemer’s. The Trail Steward will provide gloves and water (they encourage us to bring our own bottle of water, to reduce plastic waste). Please wear sturdy shoes. Wear your grubbies to church and we all will head to Carkeek Park directly after worshiping together at the 11am service.

While the work project is only suitable for teens and older, families with young children are still welcome to the 12:30p work party and 3:30p picnic! During the work party, younger kids can play up on the Carkeek Park playground with a few supervising adults while the other parents join the work crew.

Stick around for the 3:30p Carkeek Park potluck picnic after the work party so we can fill our bellies after hard work (or hard play) and celebrate God’s creation!

Please sign up online so we know we’ll have a big enough work crew: https://www.volunteersignup.org/MMPW7
